Owner/Alberta Land Surveyor
James graduated in 2001 from the University of Calgary with a B.Sc. in Earth Science. James received his commission number 920 as an Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) in August 2013 and is currently the principal ALS, project manager and president at Element Land Surveys Inc. James’ experience is broad, ranging from extensive field experience with both GPS and conventional surveys in areas of municipal legal survey, construction, high rise, topographic, and oil and gas. James also has several years of office experience as a CST and PM. Some of his major projects include: “The Bow”, Keynote Building, Fish Creek Park Storm Pond Upgrade, Calgary Science Centre, Saddle Ridge Tri Services and Cochrane Medical Centre. James is married to Jodi and has 3 children: Emma, Sara and Jacob, each of which he adores. In his spare time (if he has any), he enjoys camping, travelling, snowboarding and running.
Josh is completing his Bachelor in Geomatics Technology from BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology). Josh has more than ten years field experience as a senior party chief and has been a project manager for more than 5 years. Josh is married to wife Catherine and has three children: Finn, Charlie and Elsa. In his spare time Josh enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing and woodworking.
Alberta Land Surveyor
Mark began his survey career at the University of Calgary, where between summer jobs he completed his BSc in Surveying Engineering. Gathering a variety of experience, Mark received his commission as an Alberta Land Surveyor in 1998, then started Millennium Geomatics in 2003 before selling the firm in 2014. His career highlight thus far was surveying 24 miles of baseline in north east Alberta in 2014. In his spare time Mark enjoys both road and mountain biking, hockey, paddle boarding and music. He is very slowly learning to play the guitar. He volunteers at the National Music Center when he can. He is happily married to Kluane. They have two cats.
Lisa has a wealth of business knowledge and experience. After graduating from high school in Newfoundland, Lisa studied underground mining and worked at Teck Cominco Mines. Lisa also owned her own craft shop before deciding to relocate to Calgary. She worked in the oil and gas industry for more than seven years before joining the Element team as office manager. In her free time she enjoys sewing, camping, walking her dogs, and spending time with her husband, Paul, and their two boys.
Alex graduated from the University of Calgary in April 2013 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began surveying in 2005 in Lacombe and moved to Calgary to further his education. He joined the Element team in June of 2013 as a survey assistant and has now grown into the role of geomatics technician. His most memorable projects were the Alberta Downs Racetrack and the Raymond Shores RV park. He spends his spare time riding his bicycle, playing video games and camping.
Gord Graduated from the University of Calgary in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography and received his Diploma in Survey Technology from SAIT in the Year 2000. Gord has 14 Years of construction and Legal surveying experience with both field layout and office calculations. His most recent achievements are surveying for the City Center High Rise commercial project for PCL Construction and for the Cross Iron Mills Mall for Ivanhoe Cambridge. From high accuracy control surveys and Building Construction to Earthworks and Volume computations Gord has the ability to get the Job done in any Construction Project. If tight deadlines are a concern Gord will work overtime on projects to ensure client needs are met.
Jason came to Calgary in 2005 from Shanghai, China. In 1991, Jason graduated from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology as an IT engineer. Jason joined the company in the summer of 2007 in the Drafting and IT Department. His role at Element Land Surveys Inc. is to calculate and draft plans, as well as troubleshoot the office computer system. As a computer software super user, Jason also maintains the company network. His greatest accomplishment is using his software knowledge to build his new survey draftsman career. When not working, Jason enjoys swimming, hiking and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Ted graduated in 2007 with a Geomatics Engineering Technologies Diploma from Lethbridge College. He joined the team at the beginning of 2013 with five years of survey experience and is currently a survey party chief with Element. His experience ranges from GPS to conventional surveys for municipal, legal and topographical surveys. His most memorable projects to date include working on the Montana – Alberta Transmission Line and the Newel County Regional Water Line. Ted enjoys many outdoor pursuits, including: fishing, golfing, skiing, camping, biking and walking his dog with his wife, Amara.
Marc has a diploma in Cartographic Technology and Photogrammetric Technology and is a Senior Technologist accredited through the ASSMT. Marc has been in the survey industry for more than 25 years and was a teacher of photogrammetry at SAIT for two years. Before joining Element he was a senior mapping technician and a navigator/camera operator. Some of his memorable projects include: the implementation of the DAS for The City of Calgary, the Mackenzie pipeline and mapping Addis Ababa, Ethopia. Marc has been married for more than 25 years to Joan and they have two children: Simon and Ella. Marc is also an artist (oil painting and pottery) and has cycled and canoed around the world.
